Post: Blogging Tips: Using Tags

If you use the latest version of wordpress (which we do here), you will notice a new feature called tags, these have had both positive and negative feedback, but for me i think they are cool.

Under the main section when you write a new post, you will see the tag section (fig.1.)

As you can see, tags are to be entered in a comma separated sequence, for example a blog post about tags might get the following tags ‘blog help, tags, what are tags, wordpress tags, tags help’ etc.

Are Tags Useful?

Some say yes, some say no, i would have to say defiantly. If you are using tags on your posts, you can then also display a tag cloud anywhere within your site. (ours can be viewed at the bottom of our homepage fig.2.)

The tags can be sorted in a number of ways, and can even be styled so that they look just how you want them too. The best part of the tagging system is that the more a tag is used within your overall blog, the bigger the tag will display in your tag cloud. In the above example film review, flash games and free games are all popular tags.

Visitors can then click on the tag, and this will load up an archives page, which displays all posts that have been tagged with that tag.

A pretty nifty feature, wouldn’t you agree?
