-"Recently I saw the movie Penelope, starring Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, and Reese Witherspoon. It's a story of a girl who is born with the nose of a pig, and spends her entire life indoors. At the age of 25, she finally tired of all the suitors her parents try to pair her with, ad decides to live life on her own. Through the journey, she manages to find whats really important, loves herself, and lives happily ever after. While it's not typical teen fare, a lot can be learned in the movie's key themes of loving one's self, compassion for others, and all that other loving hoopla. Well, there was a reason the movie was rated PG. However, there were some risqué jokes in Penelope that teens and adults could relate to. For instance, the following conversation takes place between Penelope, played by Christina Ricci, and her new friend Annie, played by Reese Witherspoon:
Penelope: Helaborasoreantalis. They're amazing; they bloom even in the winter.
Annie: That's cool.
Penelope: They just pop up without any help from anyone.
Annie: [laughs] Kind of like my ex-boyfriend, if you know what I mean.
Though the movie had its moments, the most illuminating element to me was up and coming actor James McAvoy's character, "Max". My most memorable scene was when Penelope was trying to guess which instrument Max plays, so she brings all these different instruments out, which he then proceeds to suck on. Classic hilarity.
I probably won't spend moey to see this movie again, but it really is a heartwarming tale that, I believe, everyone should se at least once.
