Post: The Day After Tomorrow review, plus Jordan Sparks’ “No Air”

The Day After Tomorrow: tré old(not really), but it’s good. Starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal(le sigh), this movie definitely delivers. Lets start with the story. Explorers in the north pole witness a massive crack in the shell of ice they’re based on. Dennis Quaid’s character, Professor Jack Hall, explains this climate shift with everyone’s favorite: global warming. Now, before you throw your hands up in exhaustion, it does get interesting. What was predicted as a disaster to come in centuries, Jack Hall’s prediction comes true within days. Huge storms plague North America, Europe and Asia. The only chance for survival is to go south, into the so called third world countries. One problem though; Jack’s son Sam, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is stuck in New York. So the rest of the movie is basically a race against time, extreme temperatures, and Hall’s own safety as he travels to New York in search of his son.

Now, I don’t necessarily believe this to be probable scenario, and I’m sure there are people out there who argue some of the more scientific elements(if metal in the buildings the survivors are in is shattering, how come they are ok?). But there is a huge redeeming quality, and that is amazing special effects. The creators of this movie really brought the ice age to life– really, I got goosebumps when it panned over a frozen New York.

Bottom line: If you have nothing better to do, watch this movie. Pop some popcorn, hang out with friends. This one’s a nail biter.

Does anyone else like Jordan Sparks’ No Air featuring Chris Brown? Okay, I’ll admit that it’s just a lot of harmonies over a repetitive track, but tell me: How am I supposed to breathe with no air? Seriously, the song is cute and fills my teenage soul with squee. And Chris Brown really lets Jordan shine, adding his own every once in a while. That said, I’m the type of girl that could listen to Sublime, Hollywood Undead, Say Anything, Lupe Fiasco, and Beyoncé all in one sitting (that playlist is called Sam’s Funky Time on my iPod) , but don’t let my weird taste in music deter you from listening to this poplicious serenade.

Les Crux: It’s a cute song. Not on my iPod, but it’s something that me and friends can break out into. How am I supposed to breathe with no air?

P.S. I officially have a thing for Chris Brown. So not my type of music, but he’s foine. lol. My mom says he’s the devil’s child, pelvic thrustin everywhere. I hope that’s still pg-13.

Toodles ya’ll. It’s a beautiful day in Chi-Town, not gonna let it go to waste!
